THE HIDDEN TRUTH

The clamour of grief whispers in tears as I age
Freedom tethered to the echo of a tumultuous past,
quails in fear and beckons to assuage
the deafening sound of the walls of silence.

So near, yet worlds apart
Hesitant steps, a tentative reach,
Looking in a mirror, we’re of a kind
Fetters of a past life, still strong within each.

Dark days slipping into anxious nights
Mirroring my headspace.
The voice within numbed only to reflect
In the ripple of the chaos outside.

Our years together dwindled into silence
To shun all, that held us through.
The threads that entwined our lives,
are unravelled, lost on their way to you.

The struggle is unseen, but real
of an aching disconnect in the need to feel.
A sliver of light shining through a bleak grey,
Like us trying to make some kind of headway.
We may oft stutter to a halt or sway in doubt,
But when the head leads the heart, all qualms die out.
